We need to support real journalism, now more than ever.

With it being almost two weeks since we elected Donal Trump as president, I wanted to take a moment to remind you that you need to support real journalism, now more than ever.

We don’t exactly know what sort of policy commitments and implementation Trump is going to make, and we need journalist to be able to do their job and be the “Watchdogs of Democracy.” So what should you support?

Now I am not in the business of telling you what to do but here is what I recommend.

Subscribe to both a national newspaper such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, or the Wall Street Journal. In addition to one or more of those papers, you should also get a subscription to your local one as well. Local journalist keeps your local representatives held accountable, and you should pay them for their work.

A few other good sources are non-profit journalism and news sites that you can donate to. Some examples are Propublica.org  and Motherjones.com which are certified, non-profit investigative journalism sites that do an excellent job. Mother Jones also has a bi-monthly (every other month) award-winning magazine that you can subscribe to at about $1 a month.

Finally, Democracynow.org and the Democracy Now! News Hour is a great daily news show that covers things going on around the country and the world. Donate to them as well if you are able!

There are many other ways you can help the “Watchdogs of Democracy” but those above are a few examples. Millenials, if we are going to be involved in public life, that means paying for good journalism and not getting it for free. So if you are able, step up and buy a newspaper subscription and donate to a great cause or news organization today!
